Favorite recipe

Ever wonder what the heck you are going to make for dinner???
Naw......thats not real right,???

It seems a daily struggle
What to cook
What do i want to eat
What do i have that i can cook
Is it healthy?

It gets depressing  in these times adding to the problem

So
What is your go to dinner in crazy times?

Is it pizza?
Comfort food?
What makes you wanna cook and come to the table,?

Lets share our favorites so that others can try and maybe find a new fav recipe shall we????

I like to take chicken breasts and make chicken cordon bleu

It seems fancy schmancy, i can prep ahead and it tastes sooooo good. I am worth it right?

This is how I do mine.

Boneless skinless chicken breasts
Breadcrumbs or oatmeal
Maybe spices
Mayo maybe mustard
Sliced ham
Cheese

I put breasts between 2 pieces of waxed paper. (no not mine silly...the chickens)
I pound till even so it will cook evenly
Put aside

I take my mayo and a pastry brush. If i am feeling extra fancy i may add a squirt of mustard and or spices to my mayo. Mix up.
With pastry brush, brush some on each breast. Then layer a slice of ham and cheese. I have used boiled ham, honey of a ham,  deli ham, prepackaged ham etc. All are tasty

For cheese i have used American, provolone, whatever i have for sliced cheese. Thats what makes this great.it all works
Roll up the chicken breast securing the end with toothpick.

I then get breadcrumbs OR take oatmeal in the blender and pulse it up. A healthier version of a breading. I may mix with salt, pepper, parsley or other spices or herbs to taste. Chicken is good with sage or rosemary etc. Use what flavors you like.

Once my crumbs are ready i brush more mayo mixture on outside of my chicken and roll chicken bundle in crumbs.  These can sit like this in fridge covered till ready to make dinner.
I put on a sprayed cookie sheet or shallow pan and bake about 45 min at 350. Check as they can be done in half hour too depending on how thin you pounded them.

Dont burn the cheese.
Serve by candlelight with a veggie like asparagus or your favorite and a side like rice, noodles or potatoes if you want. Or salad

Dont forget your drink
Use the fancy dishes and glasses. Its special. You 're special and these are special times.

As some famous chefs would say
BAM!  And BON APPETITE!

Do you have a recipe for us?

Quilt show from home

In this difficult time of corona i thought maybe we should start a virtual quilt show.
Showing finished and unfinished quilts to inspire others.
Who doesnt love some quilt inspiration, right?
Here are some of mine
This one is a favorite of mine that will be so beautiful on my bed
the pattern is from Cynthia of quiltingismorefunthanhousework.

And this one made of 1.5 squares
Was going to be a table topper
But I love it too
Trouble is finding more of the backgound

Its called granny square

This was a fun moda sewalong ( Step down or step up )with friends
Needs quilting but I was so surprised that I liked it. I used squares I wanted out of the stash....i am so NOT an orange person but this too became a fav
Whoda thunk???

Dunkin likes this scrappy one
Amazing how all the colors play nice
Even though it is a busy quilt

Miss Jacky made this beauty.
Um nice gift for a quilty friend....just sayin

This was fun to do
I may need to make more letter quilts

A modern baby quilt
I am more traditional but I like it
I was using up some solids while playing with squares

Olaf panel fun
I may need to take ufo blocks and combine with some other panels for fun

Scrappy trips was fun
And I like the finished product
Those colors are not planned
But still look cohesive

My star needs borders and quilting
Love love love this one

Dunkin likes scrappy trips too

An easy simple square quilt from mindless sewing

Another mindless sewing day
I just love my squares

And circles
This became too big so now need to figure out how not to cover the state in it lol
Was a 365 quilt back a few years ago
This is only Jan. Feb and Mar
I think somewhere Apr May and June are almost done too
Was originally going to have half year on front and half on back

This was a challenge.i took a bunch of 5 inch charms cut them into 2.5x5 strips
And resewed in color rows
Needs borders and quilting

A scrappy slab quilt of bits and parts

More square play with green as a neutral

A temecula quiltalong
I would have NEVER made this if it wasnt for the sewalong
They broke down the block into small doable sections

Note to self.....always try even if a quilt has a million tiny pieces
It may become a treasured favorite.

Ok.....lets see your quilts and flimsys and inspire each other

READY

SET

GO!!!!!

New greeting

I get greeted by the ah hmmmm
BACK end these days
I think Dunks was trying to get a new greeting instead of a handshake

He then climbs on my stomach

Looks into my eyes
A safe distance away of course lol

Then air kisses me

Cracks me right up

Yep
My new greeting.

People may not be paying attention but Dunkin is
He is keeping socially distant
LOL
he makes us laugh daily

Weird times and twilight zone

Times in this corona pandemic are so surreal

I started this zigzag quilt in blues and then used a lot of blues for mask requests

We will see what is left after mask making is over

I need to finish up a few more then I am done

This project I saw somewhere and she happened to use navy like me
She also made it bigger by using extra 4 patches on the edge as a border

Her sashing was also the blue with red cornerstones
Hmmmmm
Will have to see if that is possible
It really made the roads stand out

Hope you are all coping in these tough times. Feels.like we were thrown into the twilight zone
Our lives are turned upside down
No more visiting
No more kisses and hugs
No more sharing anything
Keeping 6 feet apart
Some working, some not
Some that are working are upset they are not home
Some home are bored and want paycheck and to work
Some dont cook and are freaking out
Take out available but if not working that can add up fast
Some hoarding to feel in control
Some without toilet paper and basics

Its a crazy crazy world we are in at the moment
Our information is sometimes unclear too
Tv says one thing, social media another and cdc yet another.
My boss actually believed Russia released lions to make people stay inside. Ugh

People at each other and stretched like rubber bands ready to snap. Stealing things out of your cart when you turn around. Having a dog eat dog mentality

Lets all take some deep breaths
Remember that there are things we cannot change ie the fact that corona virus is here and it is scary stuff

But lets instead focus on the positives
Maybe people are home with their families for family time
Maybe there is time to help others ie sewing facemasks
Maybe people are being cleaner and paying attention more
Or helping neighbors by going to the store
Or just listening and making others feel ok

It is a trying time for sure
But lets be grateful for the ones working because they are essential  and  lets treat them right. They are already fighting a battle.
Its not their fault the sale flyer says they have chicken and they dont....flyers are done way in advance and who saw this coming
Its not their fault toilet paper won't be in for a bit
Its not their fault there are shortages
Or that they didnt know last week when you may have been in contact  that they were infecting people with Corona. They had no symptoms

It is easy to blame blame blame... governors saying this should have been done that should be done.
Guess what.....NOBODY IN OUR LIFETIME HAS BEEN THRU ANYTHING LIKE THIS BEFORE
EVER
its easy in hindsight  shoulda coulda woulda but what good does it do to blame?
NONE
if we want to stay strong we need to rethink how we act and speak and treat each other

1. Quit blaming others....instead think how we can solve problems.....

2. Try to see positives instead of negatives...
My house has never been cleaner lol

3. Lets look at the lighter side of things.....someday we will laugh at the toilet paper shortage.      We all can use a laugh in these trying times.those entertaining on social media, kudos to you

4. Be careful....do what is recommended
Stay home if possible....wash down everything....stay away from possible contamination

5. Be someones support....we ALL need support these days. Email. Facetime. Call on phone. Check on family and friends. Talk about fears and emotionally support one another

6. Dont spread rumors.  Find out facts and instead inform others.
One if my nieces is flipping out over the masks...you shouldnt wear yada yada
No, it is a barrier. Yes its not an n95 but a barrier is Better than no barrier
The masks they are talking about not wearing is the much needed masks for our healthcare frontlines. Save those for the frontlines.
She even told my brothers lysol is no good.
Um again, no. If you clean then disinfect with lysol wipes it is a good thing. Lysol spray is not a cure all for airborn particles but it certainly can make the air less inhabitable for the nasty germs
Facts are we don't know a lot about this nasty virus and what you hear today may change tomorrow as we learn more.
Dont feed into alarming others....we are all trying to deal with this pandemic and come out the other end.

7. Wash your hands and sing while you do it for your 20 seconds
Whether it's the alphabet song or happy birthday or i will survive......just do it
Washing germs away and not touching face and eyes and nose is our best defense

STAY SAFE MY FRIENDS AND REMEMBER I AM HERE FOR YOU SHOULD YOU NEED TO SOUND OFF YOUR FEARS OR NEED A VIRTUAL HUG
When this is over I Will be hugging many people.i miss my hugs.but for now just know that I love you and am thinking of you all.
God bless

I believe with God we will get through this

What now

This guy has been clingy to both of us

I think he realizes with me home that things are different and he isn't sure about it

I have been making masks for everyone
BUT
my pfaff decided it needed a break
And
It
Wont
Work

Grrrrrr
So I grabbed the other machine the white that i had serviced not too long ago

I hate it
I wound bobbins
It has only straight stitch which is ok
But the feed dogs dont grab the fabric and the stitches are uneven

Grrrrr i just need to make one more large batch of masks and i will be done

Took me 1 hr to do 2 this am
And they were cut ready to go

Frustrating for sure

I may need to get out my trusty singer 99 or 221
Why now????
Good thing I have backup machines

Doing my part

I have been sewing up a storm

Not of the quilt variety but of mask variety

I took my elastic stash and found some eighth inch which is perfect

I cut enough for 10 masks
Then pulled stash and started sewing

I have one niece in pharmacy in hospital. And one niece a travelling  phlebotomist.
She travels to draw your blood

Both said yes to mask help and they will use the fab masks over their other one and if get coughed or sneezed on will change it out for next patient

Saving their precious mask underneath

Tough times call for tough measures

Are you doing anything in the way of fighting corona? And protecting loved ones?

**** update****

One niece wants ten

One wants 5

One cousin one
Another cousin one

Cousins wife whatever i can send and she is sending elastic

Guess I know what the next days will bring

Masks lol

The plan

I need to make more of these with my cotton yarn stash

If I can get one a month done that would be great to tame the yarn stash

These need to be found and turned into my runner

I never got to make these for my brother last year

I have some perfect fabric for it too

I have tons of towels I need to work on too

They make cute little gifts
And so many themes and holidays can be used too

This guy needs sashing I think to finish it off
I need to revisit the pattern on temecula
This will be for me. I LOVE IT

I am hoping that this plan has me finishing some of these this year.
Do you have a plan?

View around here

Here is the view around here. I am taking the elastic i have and making masks.
The first one i made for hubs.

He chose a solid blue fabric

Maybe we can have mask fashion shows for entertainment. Lol

Our model Rich has an operating room blue mask fitting snug with a three pleat version.

Lol

Gotta laugh to keep from crying

Are you making masks for yourself or others?

How are you coping

With all this craziness of corona and hoarding and empty shelves,  I thought to myself what am I hoarding?

You know besides 700 yards of fabric, 800 jelly rolls, 5 rotary cutters ,a roll of batting and a roll of muslin. LOL
Oooo i better get thread.....just sayin ha ha

when I was at my "new normal" this weekend of trying to foodshop, I came across many empty shelves. Many no name brands or weird brand names that I was afraid to try. I never knew there were other bleaches besides clorox. And laundry detergent too. Does this one clean enough?

Anywho, aisle after aisle of not finding what I needed got me frustrated.

And when I get frustrated I  eat. Sooooo my cart got filled with Oreo more stuff, cookies and other desserts
I NEVER BUY JUNK WITH A DIABETIC HUBS BUT I DID THIS WEEK

An apple pie and hot chocolate packets and keebler mint cookies like girl scout thinmints

OMG IF I SURVIVE COVID 19 I will need to lose FIFTY POUNDS!!!!
guess I better have rock soup for dinner maybe with a carrot

Do you find yourself hoarding something you had trouble finding?
Or Maybe you are throwing in the towel and eating like tomorrow is your last day.

Good thing I stayed away from the doritos aisle.  They are my kryptonite

I need to find a different stress reliever.
Do you think if I did yoga in the aisle that people would step over me or would a nice samaritan understand and help me up???
Tough times call for tough measures I guess

Traffic jam

I now have ten traffic jam blocks

Originally I was making a baby quilt in case I was invited to a cousins daughter's shower

With all this corona going on I am not sure she is even having one.
People are buying her things online and shipping which is fine too.

They are distant cousins so my feelings are not hurt. I am actually kind of relieved

With sashing this may be large enough
Or i can see if i can get 2 more blocks making 12 total

I am limited how much of that navy I have

Usually willy nilly is ok with me but for some reason i need to seperate these reds and greens.if i take the row off and flip it that should work

Sorry for the ugly shoe photo

Its funny when you concentrate on a subject you dont see what else gets in the shot

*****update*****
I now have 12 blocks
I just need to play with sashing and cornerstones

I like how easy and quick it came together

Dunkin may or may not be claiming this one.
Ideas are floating in my head

I have more 4 patches sewn that could be borders too.

I can make it and send to cousins daughter anyway
I can make for Dunkin.he loves mamas quilts
I can make and put away for the next baby boy
I can see if I can make it into a larger lapquilt without it looking weird

All good options right?

Making face masks

Hi everyone. I came across an idea for those who wish to help in some way.

Deaconess is looking for MANY masks as the need is great and supply is low.

Anyone who can sew can make these out of little more than 2 rectangles of fabric and 2 pieces of elastic

They will wash them and use them to protect cancer patients etc from this horrible virus.

Check out the video below should you want to help out and ease your seperation boredom in this trying time in our country.

God bless and stay safe
Check it out and please pass it along to others.

Lime in the corona time

Ok now that my 7 blocks are done its playtime.
I pulled this aqua and kinda like it to tone down some brightness

Ooo i like gray too
The colors shine

Ha ha i pulled a paisley  that looked like a virus to me
Dunkin wanted to play too

Kinda busy

An amber batik

Dunks was checking this one out too

I didnt want black because of the navy
I didnt try white or off white

Any you like so far?
Tell me in the comments which one appeals to you  or what  i should try

Thursday, March 19, 2020

Ok corona fun is here

Here were my corona colors
Oranges, apricot,ocean,navy,canary yellow,red,and celery
I chose 7 and made 10 inch squares roughly

I ironed them flat and stacked them right sides up seperating like colors

Place your ruler anywhere at an angle on the stack and cut
Hint you need a sharp blade

Seperate the stack

Place the top of one side at the bottom to shuffle the colors

Sew them back
Chain piece and dont worry too much about matching edges
We will trim later

Iron the stack keeping them in order and restacking them

You can now cut at another angle

Shuffle one side, rinse repeat by sewing
Ironing and stacking again

I had same colors so i shuffled 2 to the bottom of the stack

This is a very forgiving style of making crazy piecing so let your hair down and dont stress

The rules are have a sharp blade
And dont keep cutting thru the middle as that seam will be tough to cut

My squares i trimmed to 7.5 inches
Your measurement may be larger or smaller depending on your start size, seams and how many cuts

I cut my stack a total of  3x making 6 pieces of color
You can do as many times as you like
If you started with larger blocks you may want to cut 4 or 5x

I made 7 blocks........the same number of blocks you started out with

Because we have social seperation, my blocks will be seperated by a 2.5 strip
Then a 2.5 border i think

I am still playing with that part
And may have enough for 2 runners. One with 4 blocks and one with 3

As i play with my strips and layout I will know better what I want

In a day or two I should have the runner top done and will show you my end decision

All this stacking, sewing and ironing took me about 1 1/2 hours before work

And now my running crazy from corona table runner is ready to play with layout

To recap.......
I cut 7 squares ten inches each

My corona colors were celery, canary yellow, red, navy, orange, ocean, and apricot

After stacking, cutting and sewing i trimmed them to 7.5 inches

Now I will play with layout and borders and finish it up

Hope you have fun with it.
I know I did and it was really one days distraction from my other quilt projects.

Are you running crazy from corona?
Let us know so I can link up and we can all see
