Off to the races

These were made........

Almost another block here

And The quilt police were out in full force

He made me do a sobriety test 

Said i was skipping projects and wanted to make sure i was sober 

Little does he know i may have one drink per year. This is my normal crazy driving officer.i will try and keep a straight quarter inch i promise

And they're off

Heeeeeere comes RUSTY

Ha ha. We used to have dog racing around here in 2 places within 15 min

They used to have a rabbit on a track for incentives for greyhounds to run

The announcer would say

And they re off!

Heeeeeeere. Comes rusty

Rusty was the rabbit they were chasing

He was a stuffed bunny on a metal rod that rotated the track faster than the dogs 

Anywho as you can see, i won my race.

in half hour i had them all wound

Yay

Bobbins wound.....check

Contemplation time

This guy is so funny

He follows me into the sewing room and finds a comfy spot

I need to stop overthinking this one and get a top done

I like the red then blue so will do that

I wanted it bigger but will worry about size later

Maybe will mimic the pillow with a 3 sided white border and blue on bottom to bring it to lap size

We will see......

I need to find my gray tone solid yardage and sew this up

I think somewhere in this mess of a room i have little dresdan type blocks in colors that would be adorable as a border

If i combine ufos maybe the quilt child can be born and adored

I dont always have to go with the original plan right?

Sometimes quilt angels stall us to make better choices

Thats what i think

For example i wanted to have a little stack of baby quilts at the ready becauae the nieces are getting married

I started with a boy quilt.....the 4 patch framed in solids

My niece had a girl

So Dunkin claimed it. But was it angelic intervention from someone who knew something i didnt know?

My pineapple runner....i had made 2 gave one to boss for Christmas

Mine went on back burner

Now trying to finish it but found out that my new friend Linda....Jackys neighbor loves pineapples

So......i may finish it for her

I did sew up the start of 2 pineapples for mine

See? There is always a reason for things 

My UFOs are not my fault

Just sayin.......

Rebel

I am such a rebel

I didnt want to make bobbins so what did I do?

I cut fabric

These little cuties remind me of citrus

Isnt it funny how we can divert our attention on a task?

Thats  why ufos happen.

My task for March was table runners. 

3 to finish......a doable task

Did i find backing fabric for any of them?

Nope

Did i put together the joann fabrics red truck one?

Nope

Did i make binding so it matches while the border fab was out?

Nope

Lots a little squares

This quilt i am loving to use all those 1.5 squares

But

As usual I did not plan

I guess i am a quilt on the fly type of gal

I decided on 5x5 squares

But......

That means i need to pay attention

(I just hate that)

Yeah......i like to go to the school of hard knocks

If i had done 4x4 blocks i could just turn the block to make it work in the layout

But then my blocks would be 4 inches

And would take more of them

Should have made 8 inch blocks

Oh well.......

Its still fun sewing them up between peojects

Just wanted to warn you

In case you have a postage stamp quilt in your future

Quilting all those seams?

Havent thought that far ahead

I was so happy making this little block

Web piecing along

Had all the seams sewn or so i thought

Guess it was a practice run for my quarter inch seam allowance

I think its bobbin winding time

A chore i hate

We should have bobbin winding races or something  to make it fun

A little of this and that

As i look for backing fabric for the pineapple runner i see pieces of golds

So i cut a few into 2.5 squares

Because Jackys neighbor Linda loves pineapples 

And if i finish the runner i can always sew one for me

See? I already have a lot of my 2 pineapples done

And once this solid was cut

It was short work to web sew them into a 5 inch block

One.  Uh hmmmm "new" old project

And moved one a block along

No finishes yet

I may have to not be as picky for the backs of my runners and get er done

Done is better than perfect right?

 

Dangerous place

When getting prescriptions at Wally world

I saw a sign

Fat quarters .97

And they were waverly solids which i need for the postage stamp quilt

Yep dangerous!

So i grabbed a few

Started cutting 

And figured if i  make about 4 or 5 blocks

Of each color that i will be doing good.

Found this too

Ran out of some fabrics so will substitute

But

First things first 

I think me needs some bobbins wound so i can keep on going

This little project gives me a feeling of that squirrel you chase when a project gets you stumped or bored

March has not been as good for finishes

BUT

I DID move things along a little.

Why is it when you are straightening up you create more of a mess than you first had?

Is this the infamous MURPHY of Murphys law?

I think its all HIS fault

I have been looking and looking for backing for strawberry and pineapple runners

As i look i see strips of this and that so I Sewed them up

Into more blocks for this

I found this with 9 blocks

Made 2

Made 2

Etc 

And now there are 16

I am thinking 24 blocks is around what i need

So the end is in sight

Then i will look for a dull wide border

And put some flowers on it

Thats the cutrent plan anyway

Manic Monday

Found this while looking for backing for runners

This was a sujata sewalong type thing

I was going to make it into  wallhanging and i still can but i  am leaning more towards a 16 inch pillow

Either way she needs to be quilted up

So i played

Not the greatest but me and my singer are having fun

Not sure what i will do in the center but the ends are ok for now

It may be the next March finish

March is slow going here on the quilting front

Added 2 more blocks here.....

But before sewing i need to mix it up a little more

And 2 more blocks here

I found a different blue and a brown solid

I may be able to make more in the same colors while I have them out

These blocks are small like 5 inch finished so lots will be needed even for a lap

Not many finishes and the month is almost over......

 

Moving along

Worked on 2 more blocks for this quilt

They are cut at 9 inches

Nonchalant easy peasy stressless sewing

Last row made wide for cutting

Thinking maybe 4 x 6 blocks

Gotta work the math

The quilt in my head from years ago had a huge border around the center blocks that was appliqued with scrappy flowers

The bottom 2 are the latest blocks 

Needing some yellows and blues in the next ones i think 

And the 1.5 

Bin is overflowing so moved this one along a little

I dont have too many solids so will peruse and see if i can scrounge up some at the bottom of the bins

Thinking some yellow and mint green and maybe reds would work

I just love how scraps reflect a quilters personality 

Some quilters are a modern mix of gray and oranges

Some like me have vintage fabrics that i love

Still others are kaffe or tula kinda peeps

Its all good

Once i find backing fir puneapple and strawberry i will quilt them up and bind.

I am evaluating projects and depending on how much i like it, determining if i will continue on the original path or not

If not the blocks go in the parts department tin 

From there they will make a kitchen sink quilt

One knit dishcloth which i desperately need 

I really need to do half hour each night

On to tonorrows project 

 

Tea caddy

Remember this? Hst cutoffs from another project 

I sewed them into a 10x20 piece and quilted it in the ditch

You can hardly see but it is quilted

Then cut a lining 10 x 20

And pockets at 3x5.

Fold the pockets to 3x2.5

Place evenly on liner all facing up same way

Leaving space at sides and top and bottom and away from center fold 

Stitch around 3 sides with fold edge at top

A decorative stitch would be perfect hwre but i just sewed 1/8 in raw edges showing

Voila.......pockets for your tea

Next i will be adding a small handle in the center of each end then binding to finish

A cute little tea bag holder to hang

Handy to have a variety of them out

I made 8 pockets with my size

If you want 12 make it wider and longer

Makes a cute gift of ufo blocks 

Easy sewing too

Now to find purple or gold for handles and binding

Do you know any tea drinkers???

I can think of all kinds of ideas

Red cross blocks holding bandaids

Cute winter print holding hot chocolate with bigger pockets of course

Or oatmeal packets

Or candy for diabetics

Are you gonna make one?

Borders are on

Now to find backing and binding and get er done

Love this easy runner

I winged it sizewise 

Made 2 pineapple blocks

Added a center square

Made a 2 inch gingham border (cut at 2)

And a 3 inch (cut at 3) of the gold

The center is 2.5 squares i played with  one day

Strawberry is up next

Hmmmm i thought i had one acorn block somewhere.......gotta see

That would be cute for Fall with fall print borders

Oh the possibilities

 

Not productive month

My only finish so far for March

Ughhhh

Sewed a little here and there but no real progress

This was mindless sewing to clean up bits

I think i need an organization week to gather and cut and see whats what

The projects i found i was not interested in working on 

This will be a cute bag or placemat or something small

Need to clean and clear out and freshen up

And maybe even get some flowers  for the

 garden

I love the lighter days already

Project of another kind

Here is a project of another kind 

Setting up an air purifyer

All winter we had a humidifier as the air gets so dry

I am hoping that this air cleaner will help Rich breathe easier

It will go in the bedroom

And hopefully help him breathe at night

Someone is shadowing me
