Let us remember what Memorial Day really means 

Not a day off

Not grilling outside

Not the beginning of wearing white

Not the first day to plant

It is a rememberance of those who died fighting for the freedoms we all enjoy and some abuse

Hug a veteran today

Buy him coffee

Put a flag up and remember those who gave the ultimate price...their life 

Say a prayer for them

Playtime

My friend Julierose mentioned crumb quilting the other day and i came across small pieces i had sewn

I joined them and then grabbed crumbs and strings out of my bin and played for about an hour or so

I got these largish pieces that I will iron and cut into blocks for a quilt

I even pulled some red white and blue for a mugrug

Trouble is i just gave breathing room to the scraps

The bin seems FULLER

Lol

 

Suddenly salad

This is my salad area of the container garden

I picked all this the other day

Made 2 dinners and put some mint in my water with lemon and strawberry

Yum .in my yeti to sip at my desk 

Look at that beautiful mint 

Some curly and flat parsley ernt inro rhat salad too

And green leaf lettuce

Was so yummy.i just added onion and pepitas on top with sweet vidalia dressing

I could have added a protein but my body  is was craving just greens

I have already had 2 salads out of this garden and mint and parsley and other herbs

Made an herb butter for our ribeyes

Using thyme,rosemary and some garlic

Yummy!

Hubs complimented and he usually complains with herbs

Wedding

This is a peek at the wedding flowers for my niece

Her theme is blue and gray

Time is a ticking away...

June 19 will be here before you know it

 

Status of the weave

Here are the blocks i have so far

Lots of the maroon

So will concentrate on some yellow and light green and other colors

I like the way this looks so far

Because the squares finish at just one inch

It will be a project for a bit

 

It is funny how some quilts just beg for your attention

This one intrigues me with the woven look

I just need to separate the blocks into print corners and solid corners so i will know what i need more of to make on those pedal to the metal sewing days

Thinking of organizing my week so that maybe Monday is woven blocks day

Tuesday might be finish up a little something day

Wednesday may be farmgirl quilt day

We will see

I don't like to box myself in just in case i dont feel like doing that task that day 

But

It may be the structure i need to keep on task

I dont have very many good pieces of yellow

It is not a color i buy often 

So this bag got lemons inside because

Woven progress

Moved the woven quilt by 3 blocks

I will try to do some each week then lay it out to see how large it is

If i cut the solids one day then chain piece

I can sccomplish quite a bit of progress

I had a bunch of ofd string pieces sewn in different  size strips

Not sure what my plan was so was inspired by a Jenny triple play

They didnt use string but inserted  a strip

Anywho i decided since i found a ruler i was looking for that i would make a stringy mugrug

I like it

Moved the farmgirl further along

Had this cut and ready to go 

Of course i sewed them wrong but am leaving it

I didnt want the colors together and the lights are supposed to be the other way

I am certainly far from perfect so it stays

I find i get more creative with others fabric  choices so I hit the send button

And send she did

Not fabrics or colors I would get for myself

This is one of the bags done and in the gift box

A cute pink lining

Not sure where i got the pieces

Probably in one of those quilt bags Jacky and I always got at the quilt show 

It was just enough for 2 bags

The other is quilted ready to find lining and zip er up

A mugrug was also finished

Would you believe i used up all the scrap binding? 

I think i had half inch that i chucked in the trash 

Nice to use it up.

I have 3 more mug rugs now waiting for bindings

I will gather a pile of them and put them out for residents to take

If you dont see me a bit my phone is on the fritz and i need to get a new one

I blog by phone so i may not be able until i get reset up

Gotta love technology 

Gone are the days of anything lasting longer than a couple years

Its a throwaway world

So sad

 

Making a list and checking it twice

Does anybody else make lists?

I make to do lists

A list of finishes 

A list of the gift box

Sometimes i think if i spent less time listing and more doing i would be more productive 

But then a list of to do things tells me where i am at today

A list of finishes tells me what i have done because once finished my mind is onto the next thing

Sometimes on days when I think I am being a slug i can look at the finishes list and be satisfied that i am doing something

My other lists are drawings and ideas

Am i a paper waster?

An Einstein?

A confused soul?

Anywho my to do list for the house chores is getting longer 

I need to hire a painter, electrician, plumber and all round handyman

Ughhhhh

Maybe i should crumble this list up

Isnt there a mantra if it doesnt bring peace or make you feel happy get rid of it???

I would be in BIG trouble if i did that

Out with the bra

Out with red meat of hubs

Out with the shed

Out with .......

Knit one purl two.........

Picked  this up and started to see if i could make progress

It was at the pink with a couple rows of blue this morning so i guess progress was made

Fri have to wait in car for hubs dr apt so i will bring my knitting and see how it goes

Maybe i will get a finish of the knitting kind

 

Mask

Making a mask for a truck driver

Our governor decided we still need em and a truck driver liked one of mine so adked to make a larger one to fit him better

So i started this one.just gotta iron and pleat and sew ends

If it fits i will try and make him a blue one too

We will see.......

He says he has only one that he washes every night

With this jelly roll i can make another

Want to get a third one ready to quilt

Then quilt em up and put in the gift box

Next weekend i find out what i am doing for wedding flowers

We had these signed at her wedding and now need to get it into a quilt

Not even sure how many we have so may need to put them around heart centers or something

Maybe can get it longarmed and gifted to them

Trying to pick my next victim er I mean project to work on

I am trying  to find it.

I wish i was a one and done kinda gal

Thats why i am picking low lying fruit right now. Get many done at once

I am thinking maybe backing the runners and getting them quilted up and bound

I still have a joanns truck one to sew up

Pineapple one to make for a gift

One to quilt

Strawberry one to quilt 

I think thankful one to quilt too

I need to buy bolt of muslin i am thinking

Easier than finding backing in stash that will work

Mindless sewing kinda day

Some mindless sewing of 1.5 squares

This is my most abundantly full container

The teeny tiny ones  lol

Trying to decide

This guy had to be in the center of things 

Cause of course he gets nooooo attention at all right?  Lol

Anywho i laid it out to see what i could see see see in the bottom of the deep blue sea sea sea....... oh sorry.....off on a tangent again

I found blocks to add to the ends

I will make the borders first

Then cut the center

Funny huh Sharon since you gave me those string blocks and you dislike borders. Ha ha

And i found what are little dresdan like flowers in specific colors 

I am thinking they would be a cute border kinda mimicking the center

And pulling a multitude of colors from the string blocks

It needs a light background and of course the center is only enough for the center

But i like scrappy so will see how it goes

Maybe i will pull a yellow or gold

So far i like the idea and think it will be the size i want 

First things first.....gotta make the borders

Then cut the center and appluque the dresdan on

I have my work cut out but this is a creative project 

I decided that the reasons i flit from project to project are.........

1 i am an Aries.  DUH

2 i get bored easily

3 i have different time slots that i can sew....some before work....15 min here.....some at night

4 i need different tasks for different times...morning is when i am bright eyed and bushy tailed...after 2 i cant carry on intelligent conversation

5 some days i feel creative....some i feel like pedal to the metal. In creative days this project works. On pedal days i just wanna sew mindless

So now that i KNOW why i have UFOs.......i can keep a few different types going to satisfy those needs. Morning is cutting and prep and those difficult parterns as i am best brain-wise. Afternoon is pedal to medal. Weekend may be creative. 

When i fall outta love for a project i am trying to think who would like it. Then i can finish it with a purpose...ie Aunt Lindas birthday etc and move it along. i find i work best under pressure and with purpose. 

2020 was a reflective year  and even though it was crazy i am thankful to reflect on things and life and priorities

I think its made me better

 

Oh how sweet it is

2 sittings of about half hour to 45 min each

Now to border with the red and quilt er up

And the best part........

One jelly roll makes 3 because i have enough to make another one

So with one yard of accent fab you can make a runner

My first one had black accent

This one red

Not sure what number 3 will have

Maybe green?

So those of you who have jelly rolls you want to use up.......

Grab 6 strips. Cut out your 12 and 12 reverse of binding tool shape

Grab a yard of accent fabric

And make some gifts.......

3 of one jelly roll

Plus strips left after that and i also had end pieces of 2.5, 2 and 1.5 for my square bins

A win win......

Get that gift box going I am telling you.

You will thank me later

How cute would a runner with matching strip sewn to a towel be? And maybe a scrappy potholder of the tiny pieces?

Or a large runner and a couple smaller ones for a set

Or a runner with a nicely scented candle

Or centerpiece?  A cute truck......oh my

Or take that jelly roll and make a small quilt using  this pattern to make like a star with the quadrants

Remember the runner of the truck jelly roll with black?

Well there was so much left to the jelly roll so i thought hmmmm

How would it look in red accents?

For those of you thinking the same........

I love this pattern using the binding tool

It is in Jennys block book not sure of the edition at the moment

But cut one 8.5 square and 12...2.5 squares of the accent fab

Then the jelly roll gets folded so you have one and one reversed of the binding tool shape....cut 12 of each shape so 12 and 12 reversed

Sew one side to the large square,sew the opposite side with square on end 

I seperated them as i cut the 12 needed

12 and 12 reversed

Then grabbed one stack of the same kind and added the squares

Easy peasy no brain sewing

I did this in about 20 minutes after cutting most of the pieces

The fall colors go with the red but there isnt necessarily red in my jelly roll

I am seeing these in Christmas colors 

Or Halloween 

How cute would it be with words in the large center square and the prints in the strips to go

For example cat theme, dog theme, food or kitchen theme

A pretty sunflower fabric and greens and yellows 

Oh my.  I could be dangerous

If i had a quilt shop ......like my room doesnt hold as much....right......

I can envision these so many ways 

I may look at my leftover 2.5 strips in a different way

A trip out

 

Last Sat was a busy one

This guy had a vet appointment and getting him in a carrier deserves an award of some sort

He is a buggar about it

Anywho i blindsided him and got him in and off we went.

All the way there he panted and hyperventilated and said cuss words to me

When we got home, this is how i was greeted.

I figured ok he will get over it.

We will be friends again.

NOPE

ALL

WEEK

LONG

I SAW THE BACK END OF HIM

until today

He holds grudges for sure

Good thing we are good for a year!

I really want to get back to this one

I gotta find my neutral yardage for the center

And get the border sewn.

Then i will know how big to cut it for the dresdan applique

I also will know how big it is so i can determine the next row

Am working it kinda like a stay at home round robin

Somewhere in this pigpen of a room i had made little dresdan like blocks in individual colors that I can see as a border

If i remember right they were like 5 inches or so

I will do some digging
