Day 11 almost there

 

Are you a shopper?

Have you ever had Santa help you shop?

Like you had no idea what to get and the stars aligned and voila the perfect gift

My niece was laid off with all this covid crap so money is tight

Her 4 year old niece is the only one she wants to take care of for Christmas 

She was kike Aunty i dont know what to get her

Well i was at wally world picking up prescriptions and low and behold

Cute toy appliances for 5 bucks

I texted her and she was ecstatic 

When my daughter was 5 she wanted a fur coat like mine.that was when rabbit coats were all the rage

Well a rabbit for a 5 year old is not practical so i decided to overcompensate with Toys

My friend and i went to one of those midnight madness sales the.night before Christmas and in front of us was one white fake fur coat in my daughters size 

We snatched it up and ran to the register

The look on her face christmas morning when she got her "rabbit coat" was priceless

Day 10 whats your favorite gift to make

Every year mine changes

I am lucky that my family was crafty so i learned to sew and paint and crochet and knit

If i could only learn to work with wood i would be happy lol

This year i am on a hat kick

Not sure why but i am making hats and headbands and find them useful and warm

And it uses up yarn stash so not a bad thing right?

We used to do chinese food Christmas eve but you have to order by like 3 to get it for 5. Crazy......

Hubs was never a fan so he looked for a nearby pizza place to be open 

My favorite christmas foods are my moms fudge recipe. Her french hamburg dressing and turnips and carrots mixed.

Hubs likes my double choc cream pie. The secret is mixing in choc chips with the pudding and melting them. Yummy......no calories on christmas right?

Moms  french dressing or stuffing as some call it was simple.

Hamburg, onion, sage, potatoes and french bread. All mixed into a wet mixture with water or broth then baked till a crusty hot yummy goodness. 

My hubs cant eat sage so i havent had it in years. It makes a ton and is so good

Do you have a favorite recipe? Or holiday food?

I introduced my nieces years ago to ribbon candy and if i cant find them a box they are disappointed.  They are in their 20s

Day 8

Day 8 is telling about your best gift ever

Mine was dec 9 when at the shelter Phoebe picked us as parents and we brought her home

Such a sweet cat

And of course 5 years later we found baby Dunkin in the dumpster trying to stay alive

Over the years i think as a child i wanted a typewriter 

Remember those? Had it for years and loved it

My husky sewing machine has to be next.

I had bought a white machine that didnt work and the mgr gave me the husky for the same price when 5 others didnt work

Santa was surely working magic on my behalf that night

I have one

When hubs proposed we were in the car and he handed me an envelooe and said open it

He is  a practical joker so i expected a joke.

The envelope felt empty and i thought it was.  I opened it saw nothing and threw it on the floor of the car saying how bad he is playing a joke etc. He starts yelling at me oh no. Find the envelope  i had an engagement ring in there didnt you see it. 

Um what? Arent you supposed to get on one knee and give me a hint? So we spent time on the floor of the car searching for the ring i threw. Ughhhh.  

Do you have any ring stories? The kind you wear or ring doorbell or sleighbells ring?

I used to go thru my photo albums.remember those? 

I would pick a photo i could part with and send it in the mail to someone in The photo

They loved it and it was a fun blast from the past

Day 3 turtle doves

 Day 3 of the song is turtle doves

A turtle moment can Be with an actual turtle......or about being slow.....

Doves can be messages from Heaven  and that sort of thing.

Here is mine..

As a child of 5 years old i had a lot of changes in my life.  I was starting school, we moved into a new home and another sibling was born in Sept right after.  I was not happy.who likes change anyway? I was perfectly content playing outside doing as i please. Not now. Sit down at your desk.dont speak. I even had a teacher who was wrong and stated my name was not spelled DAWN. Um yeah my Mom Taught me and i am pretty sure SHE named me not you.

So when i could play outside i was happy. I explored the new area around our house.there was  lots of swampy land and i found a turtle. He was going to be my new friend and confidant. Mind you at 5 i do not know how to take care of him and left him in a box where i could find him.i hadnt told anyone about him. One day i wemt to my turtle and he was dead. I inadvertently as a naive young child killed him.

So i picked some flowers and told my mom and asked where i could have a funeral for him and bury him.i invited my family and friends and we said prayers and put flowers on his grave. I wonder if his ashes are still near that telephone pole?

I dont remember if i had named him or not but i remember the pole where he is buried near my Dads house.

 I dont know about you but around here the covid numbers are spiking again. Ugh

Which means more quarantining  and more sick family and friends and potentially more losses 

Kinda grim right?  Lets try and make the best of our time at home and keep each other in good spirits shall we?

Those who know me know that i like to put spins on the 12 days of Christmas.  I have given many 12 days gifts making a fun game out of it. 

So lets play.......

I found more white hat yarn

Next is organizing my pugsty craft room so i can work

Then organizing by task.

Hot glue projects 

Paint projects

Mod podge peojects

Then rethread and clean machine to sew a few small projects

I never got to bring sewing machines to be fuxed so am having  issues getting  deer quilted 

My 99 is just too small and the stitch on it isnt the best 

To hand quilt i would never finish it.

I need to find plan b but with covid its hard to do

I will do what i can. Boss will be off so here comes the stress

When i am out they send someone to cover 

When she is out i am alone doing it all

Anywho if i am idle a bit dont worry

Trying to get back in the groove 

Time is a ticking

And i am having a blue christmas

 

Gotta finish little things first

This is almost done. I need to finish it up

Funny story.....

One of my nieces when she was 6 or so heard Santa Baby on the radio

She goes Auntie I hate that song 

Its not nice.

Shes right. Who is seducing Santa?

Out of the mouths of babes right?

A other niece used to love to sing the 12 days of Christmas 

She was so proud she knew all the verses

Fast forward to the holiday at my house

My brother in laws dreaded holiday song? 12 days and she proceeded to sing it to him

I died laughing as he had to be nice and listen

Another niece i think i told you was the star of the school christmas musical. She did a solo oh Christmas tree 

She was so cute around 6 years old all dressed in a tree outfit decorated in lights and ornaments  and a hulahoop held the bottom round so she could walk. 

Stage is dark

She us lit up with tree lights

Walks out to her spot

Spotlight on her and teacher starts playing the song from a recording

It skips

Teacher halts her and starts again 

This goes on about 5 times when impatient Kayla wanted her recital over with so she screams out oh Christmas tree oh Christmas tree  and the rest of the song. Literally screaming the words over the imperfect recording to make sure the teacher knew she didnt need the words

She got a standing ovation from the crowd

They loved her and her patience had worn thin so she showed em how to get er done.

We died.

So cute and such good memories
