A fun package

 

Barbara of wonttobequilter sent me a package

A kitchen scarf or boa as they are called

I love it!

How festive and fun is this?

Is that a mask on me or food muzzle ha ha

Hard to get all in the shot with my fat cookie stuffed body LOL

And someone with paws wanted my scarf

you wear it when cooking or baking so if you need the towel ends to use as potholders or to wipe hands they are handy

My sis in law will be jealous ha ha

This may need to be on next year's gift list

Gifts from work

Work is crazy

They spend so much money on Christmas its nuts

We get beautiful flowers delivered the day before

Then a huge gift with giftcards and presents 

This year was a beautiful vera bradley bag

Nice enough right?

Nope

It had makeup and skincreams and about 400.00 in gift cards

I know.

Crazy. But here is the thing.

One year we got fancy wines.hubs and i dont drink and someone was a recovering alcoholic

Not good

One year we got luggage

I dont travel 

One year pajamas.um i dont want my boss to guess my size or style of Pajamas0

See what i mean? They should stick to money or giftcards

Am I just being a crabby old lady?

My flowers are in my bathroom locked up because the cat eats them 

The makeup and creams will go to nieces

And one giftcard  is  for a massage so that will probably be given away too

The gifts are not for me

I love the bag.

Am i ungrateful?

I just think its over the top and a waste on their part

I wonder how many others give theirs away too 

I will get the bill in jan to pay and when i see what they spend on things its crazy

My last company gave visa cards or money

It was well received by all

Made some stove towels for the giftbox

For the 12 days in my park 

Loving the printed ones

Feels good to sew a little bit here and there

 

Routines

 I need to back and quilt this

I am thinking plain straightline quilting

Or organic crooked lines if you will

Would love to do baptist fan but not sure if i could do it justice

This weekend was busy even with just me hubs and Dunks.

Getting used to new routines

Trying to get gifts delivered 

Tracking gifts that were mailed out weeks ago

Putting together a hospital bed tray

I am soooo not mechanically inclined never mind strong enough to tighten nuts and bolts

And after all that i decided to make a quilted topper to protect the tabletop

As it got christened the monent it was used

Neuropathy is not fun

And hubs felt bad

I said listen its a table

We can make some protection for it

It is what it is. 

 

Dunkin thought i said quilt for him

Arent all my quilts for him???

Anywho  still gifts to deliver

Tree us still up

Nurse and physical therapist coming today

Lots to do. Oh yeah and work too so gotta get breakfast and lunch for hubby before i go

Life is starting to get busy.

My friend Julierose sent a package all the way from the North Pole

She has such beautiful handwriting and makes it so fancy schmancy i love it!

GET OUT! Now this is funny because when I saw this pattern I said I will have to buy that after Christmas 

Now I dont have to

But I see a Christmas chef who is gonna burn dinner because she is looking for some jelly rolls to make this

Just sayin....

And what? ANOTHER pattern I have to try

And a scrappy quilt pattern too

I'll be home for Christmas

Hubs is home

We have a new routine.

He is currently off all insulin

Trying to help his neuropathy

Having protein more often

Found it in water and also in instant oatmeal for him

Checking his blood more often

Eating food more often

So i get food ready for him before i go to work

Coffee in a thermos

Sandwhich and crackers nearby

Cola in case he needs a quick boost

Call from work to check his blood

Lots more work before and after i go to work so we need to evaluate and see how this will work long term

Not sure if we will need people in full time or if i cut my hours or how we will navigate this new normal 

For now he can sing I'll be home for Christmas 

And it feels good 

 

Its different around here

Someone is missing

And someone is sad and missing their buddy

He slept on Daddys side of the bed the last 2 nights

All curled up. 

I feel bad

He is still there as I type this

So much going on. Found out 2 park residents passed away recently

Both were beautiful people.one on my street and one street over. They will be missed

My lawn guy left this in a card on my door

So cute. His young daughter signs the cards and probably helps him deliver them

I love it. 

The other side is cute too.

Tonight look in the southwest sky for the star of Bethlehem

Supposed to be there about half hr after sunset here

Crazy days

 

 

Yesterday was not a good day

Hubs was sleeping but breathing funny

Good thing i heard him as I was up doing things

I decided to take his sugar reading

40

My mouth droppwd and I went into panuc mode

I threw in the light. Woke him up and fed him some cola

Then banana bread

Then chocolate candy

Praying it would bring it up

Poor guy thought i was nuts 

He was sleeping

Usually he can feel it. He gets sweaty and shaky

He didnt feel a thing

Scary

It got up so i let him go back to sleep

Half hr later i rechecked and it was going down again

I repeated the process and called 911

He was starting to have face twitches and incoherent talking

He is in the hospital

The hospital that I can not go to because of covid

A designated covid hospital

Yeah scary stuff for sure

They said he was dehydrated

Really? He has a water by him at all times

And drinks them all the time 

We go thru 48 bottles a week

So today hoping he comes back home

Dunkin is moping around

He knows he is missing

He slept on his side of the bed

And was moving around looking for him

This virus has surely made everything difficult

From diagnosing sniffles to going alone to the hospital to not seeing friends and  family 

I have not even been able to talk to him

He left here in underclothes

So not sure how this will work either

He obviously needs shoes etc to get home

We have 10 inches of snow

Ughhhhh

This is surely a crazy Christmas 

2021 can only get better right?

What a way to end a week

With a mountain of snow to shovel

This was at 8am thurs and still snowing

Yep the old bag in the boots trick to help keep the toes dry and warm

Half bundled up ready to shovel

Layers work well

I shovelled twice. Ugh my shoulders are sore

Cleanup aisle 3

 

Everyone seems to be cleaning up things so I decided to join that movement 

I need to make a list 

One long one listing things that i need to work on

And one with 2 or 3 items to immediately FINISH

yes I know. the F word

FINISH

i have so much fun in the process

That I dont finish

Instead I flit from one to another like a butterfly

We are getting slammed with snow here

My back already hurts without lifting the shovel

But i will need to clean out soon

Clean snow

Clean UFOs

Clean slate for new year

What are you up to?

With mask making and PPE becoming scarce again I was asked by a niece to make scrub hats

I guess covid can live in your hair 8 days even after washing

Who knew?

So she needs some hats

We downloaded a pattern and i cut one out

It has darts in it and i think is reversible

I did solid gray per her request

Any tips from anyone who has made some?

Tomorrow i start sewing the darts and figuring it out

Wish me luck

I would like to make her a few

She has long hair and works in a nursing home

The Christmas spirit

 

 

Yesterday there was a package on my step when I got home from work.

After a long day and finding out 2 more people at work have covid

Yeah......i know.....i never knew about the first ones either

I was soooo angry but anywho.....

I did errands after work and was headed in to start dinner and almost tripped over it

What could this be?

It was wrapped so pretty with a Christmas card

And just said Merry Christmas from your Southway friend

I immediately called Jacky...my Southway buddy

Nope not her she said

Hmmmmm

Who could it be?

Maybe a recipient of one of my 12 days gifts?

Sending out vibes to thank my Southway friend for my beautiful gift

It is on my tree

I love it

And Merry Christmas my friend!

While i wrapped.......someone napped

The chaotic week

Twas the week before Christmas and all through the house 

Not a creature was stirring 

Not even a mouse

The stockings were hung......operative word WERE

by the chimney with care

In hopes that St Nicholas soon would be there.

Theres goodies to bake and presents to wrap

After work all I can muster is a nap

The post office is fun standing in line

Wait i forgot a package at home

Grrrrr it wont get there in time

Heres hoping your preparations are going as planned 

I cant wait till 2020 is 

History i am sooooo not a fan

After the holidays we will resume our regularly scheduled program of quilting.

Trees

I love my little trees

They are so festive and cute

Whether in a red truck

 Or just looking like little trees

Trees and evergreens represent everlasting life.

I will have to look up how some customs started for Christmas. 

Why do we decorate trees in our homes? I think it started in Germany

Why do we buy gifts? I like to think its to honor the history of the wise men and everyone bringing gifts to baby Jesus

Something to ponder this holiday.........

Angels we have heard on high

FINALLY i was able to get these done

I decided on a little color for this crazy year instead of the all white i was originally going with

I think they came out cute

Those less fortunate

 

 Our work has a giving tree this year

They had the food bank donations for Thanksgiving 

Out of 30 employees me and my boss were the only two donors

How sad is that

The sadder part is i am probably the lowest paid  on the payroll here

They are looking for gift cards for gifts for Christmas.  I get it. The recipient can get what they need. Then it becomes a competition who  is  giving the most .

My boss says how much are you giving. I said depends on how much I have

I guess she doesnt want to look bad but how many gift cards of 25  dollars do they expect from me. I am thinking one is in my budget.

And certain items of food for donations 

Nuts and poptarts were on the list  so i got that

I will try and get a gift card when i am out

Oh the times they are a changing........

I remember my Mom saying to us as kids beggars cant be choosers  meaning to be thankful for what you get and not be greedy and ask for things

But now everyone has to tell you what to get.

Kinda takes the true meaning away. For all occasions. Birthdays, baby showers, etc.  Unless someone asks for ideas i think its not appropriate to ask for things. Old fashioned i guess

I played my drum for him.......i had no gifts to bring.....  i believe it is not a competetion to see who gets the most. 

Someone i know does a child of a poor family every year

They give her a list of wants

She goes way over the top spending close to 500 on this kid

I get it she wants him to have a nice Christmas and i certainly dont begrudge

But

He is one of like 10 kids

How will his siblings feel when he is opening a mountain of expensive gifts and they are not

How do they still believe in santa when they were good but it seems like they were not

To me I would rather donate money to an entity that was letting the parent make sure that each child is happy.  Not just one because someone got them everything on their list instead of using it as suggestions

I guess i read too much into it

Maybe i am too sensitive to kids feelings

But i think this is how Christmas gets off track too

It has become a holiday full  of greed and the real meaning gets lost 

Giving of yourself

Thinking of others 

Helping others 

Thinking of their needs

Not making it a competition to see who gets the most and best gifts

Ok off my soapbox now

No wonder the holiday is stressful 

We have left the Christ child out in the cold.

He has room at my house. Does he at yours?
