Farmgirl time

We live in the woods and Christmas trees were fairly abundant

Not neatly pruned etc but as Dad would say turn the worst side to the wall lol

We would get the tree
Dad would put rocks in a 5 gallon pail
We would hold the tree while mom said tilt left or right and Dad would adjust it in the bucket
Then he would fill the bucket the rest of the way with sand
Yes sand
No aspirin in the water or tricks like that
And our tree hardly shed many needles
We would water the sand every now and then to keep it moist

Memories of gathering the tree and when the nieces were little we bought seedlings and planted one every year for them
In 6 to 8 yrs they would have a nice tree

A tree for the quilt was necessary
Hows your farmgirl quiltcoming?

  1. What great memories just one block can raise up, right?!:)))
I think we always had a "backside" to the trees we cut...DH, the kids and I would go tramping in a snowy landscape to get our live tree every year...such a fun day-- plenty of hot chocolate and cookies for the set up...and Christmas music on the stereo--yes, good times...
Thanks for bringing it all back to me;))
    hugs, Julierose

  2. Great story about the tree. I grew up with one of those aluminum trees with the revolving 3 color light. LOL

  3. We always had an artificial tree too. I also had the silver tree with the lights! I still have an artificial tree mostly due to the cats. I've had a real tree and they made a huge mess!
