Snow is a coming.....

You guys know my friend Jenny Doan?

Yeah the one of Missouri Star Quilt fame?

Well. She peaks my interest every day with new projects and quick ways to make beautiful quilts. So.......when I visit her daily, does she serve me pastry and coffee?
Um NO
she tempts me with daily deals
So I rearrange my menu and grocery list to be able to get the deal

I
Got
This
Pattern
From
Her.

Yeah i ordered it a bit back and my order just came. And now i need a tool to make it.
Well i probably could figure it out but this tool which costs half of my grocery budget will make me coffee, set up my cutting station, pull my fabrics and with a snap of the fingers i will have these cute gifts for my gift box.
Yeah right. Does she think i was born yesterday? Evidently i must be
Because i bought it.
Ughhhhhh

Will i ever learn?

Why oh why did I stop

Why is it some projects you start and finish right away
And others it takes YEARS

Like this buggar

In 2020 I want to see WHY I stop on a project and see if I can hone my skills to be better

Was it just a squirrel that stopped me?
Ran out of fabric?
Came out wonky?
Not as I envisioned?
Maybe it was for me and put to the bottom of the list?
Finished Project has no purpose or recipient in mind?
Dont like the pattern, colors or style anymore?
Hate borders. Or binding

Whatever the reason is,  I want to fix it so that I can have more successful finishes

Do you have the same problem?
Come join me then in our quest to be better finishers.

Pick ONE project you want finished this month.
Just one.......
Grab scrap paper and dig deep to write down all possible reasons it isnt finished.
If it was just a squirrel....concentrate on this right now and we will chase squirrels later.  I PROMISE

If its a fabric shortage.....can the project be made smaller? Can we add another fabric and make a design decision?

Wonky? Can we skooch seams and trim slivers to make it work?
Sometimes jack the ripper is our friend

Even if not as you envisioned this project can make someone else warm and happy

What do you say. Wanna join me?

THE $##%^&( $ DEER QUILT is my January pick.
It makes me say bad words and has to leave  this house
PRONTO
I know i am at the layering process of backing etc and need to see if what i chose is big enough
At this point if not, i will gather ufo blocks and piece the back to work
Or will trim a little off borders depending on how it goes
My surgery is coming up and I need this DONE

Are you in?  Whats lurking in your closet of shame?
Profess it on your blog and we will cheer each other on with ideas of what may work

Take that superstition lol

Now that I tempted fate i need to make a plan
A plan of my goals and make them goals I can reach

In past years I had a big head and thought I can make a quilt a month and then do every block of the month or squirrel that comes along and still make gifts for everyone and......
DUH....IT HIT ME....
GOOD INTENTIONS ARE NOT THE SAME AS GETTIN ER DONE

so as I tidy up and assess things
Such as how did you acquire 5 rotary cutters
And why do you have charms you dont have time to use etc etc
Never mind books that didnt get opened after the initial I NEED TO MAKE THAT
I am looking at all that I need to finish
And see what the holdup is

Mostly I have tops done that need quilting

And if course no pocketbook to get help with it

So I am hoping you will see more finishes of some of these projects

I may start some small new ones like these
I will find my pattern and cut out kits to make some of these
They are cute tuck in gifts and with novelties the looks are endless

I will try and finish my thankful runner and put me first a little more than in the past

My stuff always went by the wayside as other projects moved up the list

This is a modern baby quilt that I really should quilt up and get er done.
With all the nieces getting married you never know if babies will be next

Olaf needs work on blocks

So close to a flimsy
And so cute

I will try and inspire you by finishing and I hope you still inspire and visit me too

Just in case I need to know about a squirrel.....

Testing superstition

They say lots of things about the New Year

Lift your left foot so you start out on the right foot

Whatever you do Jan 1st you will do all year

Eat beans for luck and prosperity
Etc etc etc

So i took no chances and are testing these superstitions out.

I figured I want to finish projects so finishes are in order wouldnt you say?

Does Mrs Superstition care what projects I finish? Not sure...

So for good measure i am making a bean soup for dinner and standing on one leg....the right one!
And I have these cute finishes to show you

I KNOW RIGHT????
Took a scrap of batting
Sewed on my teeny pieces
Sewed a
Zipper and voila....
Cute coin purse

Took another larger batting scrap
Hey I was on a roll now!
Not the batting roll silly

I found a fun chef  fabric in the stash
Funny how the size mimicked the batting piece

Quilted it up and made a larger zip pouch

There were just a few scraps of that piece left so used it for the back and the center strip of a mugrug

Pulled from my string bin and a mugrug was made. Scrappy leftover binding and all

While in the binding tin I found this red and white stripe so figured it would go well with the Valentine mugrugs

It did and it does so 2 pouches and 2 mugrugs were born

A good start to the year I say......
How did you spend your first day of 2020?

Happy New Year

Happy New Year everyone!
New years day to me is almost like September back to school.
New goals
New fresh start
Excitement to see what the year will bring

Dunkin had no idea 2019 would leave him without our beloved Phoebe
He still wont eat alone and Rich and I have to move his bowl next to us at dinnertime.
It was a tough change to our lives

So we quilt to get through it
And have made some amazing things

Dunks even learned how to get a great picture

We didnt stay up to see the new year in, but hope that 2020 is kinder than 2019 was

Happy 2020 everyone
Hope all the changes are good ones
